Arjuna's surrender

HARI  OM

Practical  steps  to spirituality-  section  6  part  52

The  Gita  revisited

Arjuna's  surrender

When  we  are  faced  with  insurmountable  problems  in  our  life  or  in  order to  gain  something,   we   surrender  to  a  higher  cause  or  authority  or  to  God. . Arjuna  surrendered  in  the  second chapter  of  the  Gita  to  Lord  Krishna. , but  his  surrender  was  only  partial  or  conditional. . We  too  like  Arjuna  ,surrender  to  the  Lord  and  like  his  initial  surrender  ,ours  is  also  partial  and  conditional.  because even  after  our  surrender  we  have  our  doubts  about  our  surrender,  about  God's  ability  to  protect  and  guide  us. . But  even  this  conditional  surrender  does  help  us  to  be  open  for  guidance  and  reflection. .  To  give  up  one's  ego  at  the  alter  of  a  higher  authority  is  surrender  . In  partial  or  conditional  surrender, we  retain    our  ego  partially  ,  while  a rank  egotist  never  accepts  another  as  a  higher  authority  ,hence  he  never  surrenders.

While  talking  about  surrender  ,let  us  understand  that  the  Lord  has  blessed  us  human  beings  with  the  greatest  gift  -  the  freedom  to  choose  , to  do  right  and  not  to  do  wrong   in  short  , He  has  given  us  the  power  to  use  this  freedom  of  choice  wisely. . So  we  are  indeed  blessed  to  choose  to  surrender  this  free will  He  has  gifted  us  to  the  Will  of  God. . The  Gita  says  ,this  is  the  highest  wisdom  , since  His  Will,  the  Will    of  totality  is  the  highest. . All  religions  enforce  on  this  concept  of  surrender. to  the  Will  of  God  . Saranagati  , as  it  is  called  , is  surrender  to  the  Guru  or  God. . One  comes  to  surrender  completely  without  any  conditions  and  accepts  the  Will  of  God  as  supreme.  . We  find  in  the  last  chapter  of  the  Gita  , Arjuna  ,who  is  now  empowered  by  the  teachings  given  by  the  Lord  ,says  he  will  do  as  the  Lord  says and  he  is  now  ready  to  take  up  his  weapons  and  fight  the  war. . So  his  surrender  is  complete.

to  be  continued......
