Varna vyavastha -continued.......

HARIH  OM
Varna  vyavastha  -continued...
The  second  classification  is  based  on  profession  or  karma  vibhagaha. . The  fourfold  classification  is  based  on  work  or  profession  or  contribution  to  the  society. . So  a  karma  brahmana  is  one  who  goes  through  scriptural  learning   and  passing  on  his  knowledge  to  others  in the  society. . A  karma  brahmana  dedicates  his  whole  life  towards  the  study  of  the  scriptural  texts  and  spreading  the  wisdom  contained  in these  texts  to  interested  and  qualified  people  .  and  thus  keeps  the  texts  alive  even  today. . The  second  in the  group  is  the  karma  kshatriya  -who  governs  the  society  through  his  leadership  qualities,  he  maintains  law and  order. ,  he  defends  the  country  from  foreign  attacks  ,all  this  he  does  so  that  the  individuals  in the  society  can  pursue  their  own  goals and  live  a  peaceful  and  harmonious  life.  A  karma  vaishya  is  one  who  does  all  forms  of  commercial  activities  ,  business   and  trade. . The  last  is  a  karma  shuddra  is  one  who  forms  the  labour  force  of a  country  . . Here  the  important  point  to  remember  is  that  no  profession  is  superior  or  inferior  to  the  other.  And  also  that  I  can  be  classified  as  a  brahmana  , a  kshatriya  , a  vaishya  or  a  shuddhra  according  to  the  profession  I  have  undertaken  to  carry  out.

The  third  classification  is  based  on  birth, that  is , it  is  based  on the  family  into  which  I  am  born. . Hence  based  on  birth   I  may  be  a  jathi  brahmana,  a  jathi  kshatriya  , a  jathi  vaishya  or  a  jathi  shuddhra   according  to  the  family  I  am  born. into.. So  we  have  seen  three  different  norms  for  classification. . A  person  may  be  born  in  a  kshatriya  family  ,so  a  jathi  kshatriya  but  he earns  his  living  by  doing  business  ,  so  a  vaishya  by  profession   but  his  mental  inclinations  and  aptitudes  are  towards  spiritual  pursuits   of  learning  and  teaching  the  scriptures  ,  so  here  he  becomes  a  guna  brahmana.
